Home Owners League

The Home Owners League is the oldest organization in Marin Valley, celebrating 53 years of volunteer service as the voice of the residents to Park Management. HOL meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 pm in the Fireside Room. All residents are encouraged to attend as everyone has a voice at every meeting. HOL is very active in making Marin Valley a safe, healthy, and happy environment while providing and sponsoring educational and recreational activities that promote the general welfare of all residents. Keep your eye on the HOL bulletin board next to the lobby front counter to watch for monthly events, minutes of the monthly meeting, and current news. The home page on this website will also alert you to the latest HOL news. In addition to the numerous activities, classes, events, and services, HOL provides and maintains the iMac, PC, shredder in the library, the lawn furniture and accessories around the pool, and coordinates with Management about the selection and offerings in the gym.

Activities and Classes

Aerobics — Water

An exercise tape for water aerobics offers the chance to work out in warm, soft salt water in the community pool on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 10 to 11 am.  Solar panels heat the pool, which is open during the warm season usually from April through October depending on the weather.

Ballroom Craft Market

On Saturdays from 1 – 4 pm most months residents offer homemade cookies, cakes, pies and treats, jams, chutneys and sauces, craft items, clothing, cards, and gifts for children, among other surprise items such as vintage clothing, antiques, jewelry and objects d’art for sale. Setup is from 12–1 pm. Contact Tara Plocher.

Chair Yoga

Laura Schepps, who has taught various movement classes, including stretching and relaxation, focused for our age group, uses a gentle and sensitive approach. Classes are provided on a sliding scale of $5–$15. Laura is student-oriented and will spend extra time with you after class to help with your particular needs for no extra charge.

Last Monday Lectures

On the last Monday of each month, Marty Gelman sponsors a speaker of special interest to our senior community at 4:30 in the Fireside Room. Residents are welcome to recommend topics and speakers.

Mens Group

On the first and third Wednesdays of the month, Michael Hagerty leads a discussion group a men who speak about being a man. Each session is led and organized by a different participant. The Men’s Group is closed at this time. But speak to Michael Hagerty about being on the waiting list.

Art in the Park

An organization of artists in the Park spearheaded by Suzie Lahr that promotes community artists with ongoing exhibits in the Marin Valley Gallery in the clubhouse for resident artists to show and sell their work.

Biography Night

Biography Night is a social event designed for residents to get to know each other better by listening to and telling stories from our lives. Biography is the art of reflecting upon, organizing, and interpreting the events of a lifetime. The process of choosing which story to tell can lead to new insights into one’s own life. Listening to another’s story often engenders awe, wonder, and gratitude for the developments of a full life.

Book Club

On the 4th Wednesday of the month at 4:30 pm book club members meet either at a participant’s home or in the Fireside Room to discuss the book selected by the club the previous month.

Craft and Chat

Love to knit, sew, or quilt? Join other craftspeople in the library on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am to work on your own project in good company. If you’re not interested in creating art or crafts, bring your mending. Or just bring yourself to connect with others the old-fashioned way (think: quilting bee). Craft Show and Sale — Periodically during the year the craftspeople display their creations for sale in the clubhouse.

Park Market

Four days a week, food from Extra Food is either delivered or picked up by resident volunteers, sorted, distributed to the house-bound, and assembled for residents to select from tables in the breezeway. A notice of the available food to select from is usually sent to residents for eight weekly deliveries.

Rollin’ Root

On Thursday mornings from 11 am to Noon, the Farmers Market visits with a refrigerated truck of local farmers’ organic, inorganic, and sustainable food to purchase.

Group Strength Training

On Sunday, 12–1 pm, bring your weights, stretch bands, and a water bottle, for an hour of gentle functional strength training for seniors with Nan Watanabe. Not just for athletes, strength training is essential for healthy aging. e We aturally lose muscle mass and strength as we age, called sarcopenia. This decline can lead to weakness, balance issues, and an increased risk of falls. Strength training slows this process, helping seniors maintain independence and vitality. Studies show that adults who regularly engage in resistance training preserve muscle, bone health, and confidence in movement. $15/session monthly ($20 drop-ins)

Taiji

Resident David MacLam is on the clubhouse back deck Sunday, and Tuesday through Friday to practice and teach Taiji from 7:30 to 9 am. You are welcome to come to the deck anytime and join in.

Exercise

Gym

HOL works with Management to purchase gym equipment to stay in touch with residents’ exercise needs. Users are asked to maintain a clean environment and to wipe equipment after use.

Recreation

Dancing

On Saturdays, residents dance for about an hour and a half in the meadow, on the deck, or in the ballroom to the sounds of our local DJs. The time is determined by the season, the day, and the DJ,  and everyone on the dance list is notified when and where it will take place. Ask Steve Plocher or David Tetta to be put on the Meadown Dance Group mailing list.

Game Night

Join Ed Collins the second Thursday of the month from 6 to 10 pm in the Fireside Room for Board Game Night. He brings a variety of word games, strategy games, party games and some cards. Bring your favorite game.
