Na Leo Nahenahe (Sweet Voices) was formed in San Francisco in 1999 by director John Lehrack, who led the chorus until 2007. It was then led by other directors until disbanding in 2012.
In 2022, Lehrack reestablished the chorus, first rehearsing in San Francisco and moving to San Rafael in 2024. New members are always welcome. There is no audition, and no experience is required. We’ll teach you what you need to know and provide resources for you to use at home. Rehearsals are Thursday afternoons from 1–3 pm.
We sing a variety of Hawaiian songs in a choral style. Some are a cappella, while others are accompanied by piano or ukulele.
Na Leo has performed with Nā Lei Hulu i ka Wēkiu with Patrick Makuakāne, Hālau O Keikiali‘i with Kawika Alfiche, Pili Moreno, and Steven Espaniola.
