Monthly Dinner Events
Every month Mar Val sponsors a catered dinner for residents and for most months for guests as well. During the summer months dinners are held on the back terrace, which is decorated with chairs, tables, tablecloths, flowers, awnings, and umbrellas for guests to enjoy each other alongside the warm breezes and beautiful scenery. In the fall and winter dinners are equally festooned in the ballroom. Guidelines for attending Mar Val Monthly Dinner Events are posted in the monthly Echo with information about the event theme, menu, and deadlines for making reservations, which are limited to two guests per household. Guests must be accompanied by the residents. Once the Echo announces the dinner event, a reservations box is placed on the clubhouse counter along with reservation slips for residents to indicate the number of residents/guests each household is bringing. This reservation must be accompanied by a check made payable to Mar Val for both the resident and guest. The dinner reservations cutoff date is the Wednesday before a Saturday dinner event or if the maximum of attendees is met before the cutoff date.
A Holiday Party includes a complimentary holiday beverage. Single residents living alone are allowed guest privileges to bring one guest.
Friday Night Pub
Friday Night Pub weekly get-togethers are intended as a venue for residents to gather in a strictly social setting to enjoy each other’s company. Pub hours are from 5 to 7 pm with noshes ($2 per person) beginning at 5:15 pm and both alcoholic ($6) and soft drinks ($2). We thank all of you who attend Pub on a regular basis and cordially invite all others to join us on a Friday. There are special Pubs during the year — Cinco do Mayo in May, Pasta Night in July, and Oktoberfest in October (or sometimes September). The last Friday in October has no Pub in preparation for the Annual Black Cat Fundraiser and Dinner on the Saturday in October closest to Halloween.
Library
The Library is located in the clubhouse for the use of Park residents. Mar Val volunteers maintain the library, which is operated on the honor system. The library provides a wide selection of paperback and hardcover books of fiction and nonfiction as well as an assortment of jigsaw puzzles. Donations of three or four books at a time are welcome. Large donations, magazines, and newspapers cannot be accepted.
Welcome Committee
The Welcome Committee volunteers meet with new residents to welcome them into the community. Greeters advise new residents to review their telephone directory for help in understanding the functions of PAC, MVEST, HOL, and Mar Val and for information concerning Park activities. Greeters also invite new residents to their first dinner event, which is complimentary.
